Jakarta eyes more buses under Jak Lingko's wing next year

As part of the efforts to improve and encourage more people to use public transportation services, the Jakarta administration is eyeing to integrate all angkot (public minivans) and medium-sized buses under its flagship Jak Lingko program next year. Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo recently said there were 1,160 angkot or small buses and 420 medium-sized buses, commonly known as Kopaja and Metro Mini, participating in the program. “We will boost participation so that by 2020 there will be 10,000 buses [integrated in the Jak Lingko program],” he said. According to Jakarta Open Data, there are 5,499 small buses or angkot, 2,000 medium buses and 2,646 large buses operating in the capital.
