A train to Gwangju:  A new milestone in ASEAN-Korea ties

The ASEAN-Korea Train set off from Seoul Station in the South Korean capital on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m., marking the 40-day countdown to the 2019 ASEAN-Korea Commemorative Summit. State leaders from 10 ASEAN countries, including President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, will attend the summit in Busan along with their South Korean counterpart President Moon Jae-in. The three-day journey will stop over in Gyeongju, Busan, Suncheon and Gwangju with around 200 passengers from the 11 countries, including students, performers and ASEAN delegates. Lee Hyuk, secretary-general of the ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC), said the ASEAN-Korea Train would bring “the wishes of the peoples for the success of the ASEAN-Korea Commemorative Summit and also for the realization of a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN-Korea community centered on the peoples.”  He added that “through 30 ...
