Floorball was not contested in Kuala Lumpur two years ago. Yesterday, Malaysia got the bronze they were denied in Singapore when they pipped hosts Philippines to third place in the five-nation contest with a 1-0 win – thanks to a sudden-death goal in the extra time by Nurfarah Mohd Yusof. “We’re overwhelmed, thrilled and delighted!” said captain Cheah Pei Yi. “It’s a fairly new team and we are glad everyone stepped up their game. We have 70% of new players from the team of 2015. “In terms of tactical play, we have definitely improved tremendously and we hope we will continue to get better.” The team will now aim to build on the solid outing to try finish on the podium in the Asia-Oceania Floorball Cup (venue to be confirmed) next year.” There was more joy for the Malaysian side as the men’s team also retained the bronze they won in Singapore 2015. Malaysia beat Philippines 7-4 to take third place.
