The Penang Chinese New Year Miao Hui (Temple Fair) celebration at the Tow Boo Kong Temple in Butterworth delivered festive vibes to residents at Jalan Raja Uda and surrounding areas. The grand celebration, courtesy of Carlsberg Malaysia, saw thousands of mainland Penang folk enjoying Chinese cultural and modern performances at the temple. Outside the temple, a giant Carlsberg 2020 sign welcomed visitors. Jointly organised by Guang Ming Daily, Sin Chew Daily and the temple, the event started with lion and dragon dance troupes plus performers on stilts going around the temple compound to entertain the crowd. Local violinist Jessica Loo then put on a spirited performance. One amazing performance involved a team of acrobats from Johor, dressed in monkey costumes. Dozens of food stalls and exhibitions were also set up around the temple. Meanwhile, Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini unveiled their Chinese New Year campaign ‘Double Cheers, Double Winnings’ during the celebration on Saturday. “Our theme this year was inspired by the Chinese saying that good things come in pairs. “Lucky winners will take home our limited edition three- litre Carlsberg bottle. “There are only 2,000 such bottles in Malaysia. “I wish everyone double prosperity this year,” he said. Also present at the Chinese New Year celebration were Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy, Carlsberg Malaysia regional sales manager (north) Lim Eng Wah, Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd executive director Eugene Wong, Guang Ming Ribao Sdn Bhd general manager Cheah Chin Wah and Tow Boo Kong Temple chairman Datuk Khor Wan Tat.
