Tourism promotions on hold

JOHOR BARU: The Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak is expected to affect this year’s Visit Johor 2020 campaign. State tourism, women, family and community development committee chairman Liow Cai Tung said the most important factor now was to focus on ensuring the well-being of the public. She said as such Johor will only carry out tourism promotions after the coronavirus situation was well under control and contained. “The state government has always put the people’s safety as its top priority. We will continue to work with Johor Health Department and share important updates with the people. “China has imposed a travel ban and we hope this will reduce the number of incoming tourists to improve the situation,” she said. Liow added that the public must get updates on the situation from a verified source and not share news from unknown or unreliable sources. Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Johor chapter chairman Ivan Teo said MAH Johor and Malaysia Budget Hotel Association (Mybha) Johor were offering free room cancellation for tourists from China. “The hotels also provide free face masks and hand sanitiser at their premises.
