Jokowi off to slow start in second term

The first 100 days of the Joko "Jokowi" Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin administration have been marked by a focus on economic matters as law enforcement and human rights issues remain on the back burner, continuing a trend from the end of his first term. Despite his pledges to expedite reform, President Jokowi, who was inaugurated on Oct. 20, has yet to be able to lay the groundwork for his key programs in his second term, including the enactment of a slew of omnibus bills aimed at boosting economic growth. Economists say his administration has not moved quickly enough to enact the new bills. The government aims to pass four omnibus bills — one on taxation, one on job creation, one on pharmaceuticals and one on the new capital city.
