Arch to honour contributions of the Chinese

AN ARCH will be built in Jalan Mustapha Al Bakri in Ipoh to commemorate the hardship faced by the Chinese community in the country. Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) president Datuk Liew Sew Yee said the arch would represent the community’s sacrifices towards nation building over the last 200 years. “It will be an iconic landmark in Ipoh new town. “The project is estimated to cost about RM500,000,” he said in his speech during the PCCCI Chinese New Year celebration at a hotel in Ipoh. “We will invite relevant professionals to draw up the blueprint for the arch,” he said. He also hoped individuals would be able to donate between RM500 and RM5,000 to raise funds for the project.
