OVER 1,000 face shields were produced by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) students for the frontliners of Tawau Hospital, Sabah. The initiative, UPM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said in a press release, is a contribution to the frontliners’ efforts in their fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. It is also to express the university’s support of them, he added. “The production of the face shields began on Oct 17 and involved about 100 student volunteers over five days. “Everyday, 20 students took turns to complete their set of face shields from 9am to 5pm,” he said during a virtual handing over ceremony with Tawau Hospital assistant director Dr Pang Chun Shong. Dr Pang said the hospital was grateful for UPM’s contribution and the moral support for its frontliners. “Let’s come together to take care of ourselves and our health to win the fight against Covid-19,” he added. This is the second time that UPM students have banded together to produce face shields for frontliners, after their first initiative in April which saw the production of 5,000 face shields. Also present at the ceremony was UPM deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Dr Arifin Abdu.
