UK weather: Torrential rain set to batter UK as Met Office issues danger to life warning

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for heavy rain, one amber warning in Wales for flooding and a yellow warning across the southwest for rain

The UK is set to be hit with torrential rain and strong gales this weekend.

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for heavy rain, one amber warning in Wales for flooding and a yellow warning across the southwest for rain.

Temperatures are set to drop, making it an even chillier weekend as coastal gales move inland.

As well as downpours, gusts of wind of up to 60mph are expected.

The yellow warning comes into force from 7am today and will be in place until 3am on Saturday.

The Met Office states: “Many areas are expected to see 20-30 mm, with Dartmoor and higher ground of south Wales likely to see some 60-80 mm.”

It has also warned flooding is possible and could cause a "danger to life.”

From tonight, it will be an overcast evening with thick cloud and outbreaks of rain across northern and western areas which will be heavy at times.

Overnight, rain will head eastwards and will reach eastern areas of England by dawn. Rain will turn showery across Scotland and will clear to clear spells in the west.
