SINGAPORE — A bus driver died in a collision between two private buses in Joo Koon on Friday (1 April), while 37 others were taken to hospital.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to a road traffic accident near the junction of Lok Yang Way and First Lok Yang Road, a short drive away from Joo Koon MRT station, at about 6.35am.
A person was found trapped in the driver's seat of a bus, SCDF said. "SCDF freed the person using hydraulic rescue equipment and the person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic," it added.
A total of 37 people were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and National University Hospital, the SCDF said.
In photos and videos posted on social media, one of the buses, with a logo in Chinese characters "Rui Feng", could be seen overturned with its body and windshield badly damaged.
The other bus, which had "Golden Friendly Contractors" inscribed on its body, could be seen partially stuck in a nearby roadside drain.
Police investigations are ongoing. Yahoo News Singapore has reached out to the two private bus companies.
