12 Malaysians injured as van plunges into ravine in India
KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve Malaysians were injured when a tourist van they were travelling in skidded off a hilly road in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India, late Saturday evening.
The Foreign Ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai, said all passengers had been rescued and given immediate medical treatment.
It said several of the victims suffered minor injuries, while four sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Indian media reported that the van plunged about 100 feet into a ravine in Vellaiparai, Kodaikanal, after the driver lost control.

The vehicle reportedly crashed through a metal barrier before being stopped by trees that prevented it from falling further.

"The Consulate General is also in contact with the injured and hospital representatives to provide necessary consular support.
"It has also helped connect the victims with their families in Malaysia," it said in a statement today.
The ministry also issued an advisory for Malaysians in India, especially those travelling during the monsoon season.
"Malaysians are advised to remain cautious in hilly areas prone to slippery roads and landslides.
"Travellers are encouraged to register with the nearest Malaysian mission to facilitate emergency assistance and to obtain travel insurance," it said.
