The rear bus collided with the front bus, which then struck a private-hire vehicle ahead of it. Both double-decker SBS buses sustained significant damage with shattered windows and deformed exteriors from the impact.
A side mirror from one of the buses was seen on the road. The number “4” could be observed flickering on the signage of the front bus.
Zhuo, the 61-year-old private-hire driver, had just accepted his first job of the day when the accident happened. “All I felt was a strong impact at the back. I didn’t realise what was happening,” he told Chinese-language media Shin Min Daily News.
After discovering he had been hit, Zhuo called for help and waited in his damaged car. The rear of his vehicle was damaged in the collision.
A 69-year-old male bus driver and 12 bus passengers, aged between 30 and 69, were conveyed conscious to hospital. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) transported five people to Changi General Hospital and eight people to Sengkang General Hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
