Let's talk criteria and lingo. 

A chaise lounge sofa is exactly what it sounds like: a sofa with an extended seat designed for you to kick your feet up without needing an ottoman. It's basically the halfway point between a standard sofa and a sectional.

Chaise lounge sofas come in a few configurations:

- A fixed chaise, where the lounge portion is permanently on the left or right side.

- A reversible chaise, where the lounge can be attached to either side (ideal for renters or indecisive decorators). 

- A modular chaise, which often looks like a movable ottoman but is designed to be used as an extended seat and may attach or slide into place. 

Some chaise sofas have hidden storage under the lounge portion, and a few can even be converted into sleepers. I'll call these features out in each product description. 

Seat depth (not chaise depth) still matters with chaise sofas, especially if you're deciding between something more upright for reading vs. something deeper for full-on lounging. Here's how to think about seat depth:

- Shallow: under 21"

- Standard: 21" — 28"

- Deep: 28" — 35"

- Extra deep: anything over 35 inches

Fabric, plushness, and size all factor in, too. Some stores will give or sell you fabric samples so you can see them before you buy your chaise lounge sofa. Some cushions will be removable, others will be fixed. Cushions offer three different levels of support: soft, medium, or firm. 

As always, measure your space: width, depth, doorways, elevators, hallways, and all, and double-check whether the chaise comes as one big piece or in more manageable parts (for instance, most chaises will have removable feet).
