2025 Emmys Predictions in Every Category
Variety Awards Circuit section is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year, featuring the following: the official predictions for the upcoming Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tony Awards ceremonies, curated by Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.

Emmys Commentary (Updated: May 27, 2025): Emmy campaigns are blazing, and the shifts in predictions show it.

Apple TV+ continues to dominate the narrative, with “Severance” and “The Studio” holding their top spots in the drama and comedy series races, respectively. Over in limited series, Netflix’s “Adolescence” remains the one to beat, firmly planted as the category favorite. (Make sure to Emily Longeretta’s Variety cover story on its star, creator and producer Stephen Graham)
As the race accelerates, Variety has unveiled the first official rankings across 91 total categories — with about a dozen more to go — with fresh rankings in for the guest acting, directing and writing categories. If you’re a stats nerd, rejoice. If you’re an Emmy hopeful… don’t worry, there’s still time.
Fresh off the Upfronts frenzy, the FYC (For Your Consideration) circuit is in full swing. Netflix just hosted its event for the latest season of the anthology series “Black Mirror,” featuring its standout star Paul Giamatti. The actor made the rounds across multiple Q&As, including one at the SAG Foundation — which, full disclosure, I moderated (Yes, he’s just as compelling in person. Yes, I resisted the urge to ask about merlot).
That same evening, YouTube flexed its creative muscles with an official FYC showcase highlighting its top contenders: “Hot Ones” with Sean Evans (talk series), “Challenge Accepted” with Michelle Khare (hosted nonfiction) and “Good Mythical Morning” with Rhett and Link (short form). The turnout was massive, and the crowd was as eclectic as you’d hope — including content creators like Dhar Mann and even U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters there showing support. When politics meets hot sauce, you know it’s Emmy season.
Looking ahead, the FYC calendar is bursting at the seams. ABC’s “Shifting Gears” and Netflix’s “The Residence” are both set for May 23. Then, on May 27, prepare for a wave of contenders including Netflix’s “Adolescence,” Hulu’s “La Máquina,” NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” and Paramount+’s reliably chilling “Evil.”

And just in case your calendar wasn’t full enough, May 28 will see events for Showtime’s “The Chi,” Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and HBO Max’s drama juggernaut “The Pitt.”
Speaking of “The Pitt,” it currently boasts a waitlist of 2,185 people for its FYC event according to the TV Academy portal — which, in Emmy terms, is roughly the same level of frenzy as a Beyoncé tour pre-sale. This show is the dark horse victor waiting in the wings this season. Watch out.
The Emmys eligibility period ends on May 31. Nomination voting runs from June 12 to June 23, with official nominations set to be announced July 15.
Top 5 nomination leaders (studios): Netflix (89); HBO Max (86); Apple TV+ (66); FX (42); Hulu (30)
Top 5 nomination leaders (series): “The Bear” (18); “Severance” (16); “The Studio” (15); “Hacks” and “The Penguin” (14); “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus” (13)

The Primetime Emmy Awards, commonly known as the Emmys, are awarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Established in 1949, these celebrate outstanding achievements in American primetime television. The Emmys are categorized into three divisions: the Primetime Emmy Awards for performance and production excellence; the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, recognizing achievements in artistry and craftsmanship; and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, which honor significant engineering and technological advancements.
