PUTRAJAYA: The Finance Ministry has approved the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations (HKHM 2025), organised by the Communications Ministry, as a project of national interest under the Income Tax Act 1967.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that with the approval, contributors to the celebrations are eligible to claim tax deductions for contributions made between May 1 and Sept 16, 2025, up to a maximum of RM20 million.

"In addition to cash contributions, individuals and companies providing in-kind donations may claim deductions of up to 10 per cent of their aggregate income for the current assessment year," he said in his speech at the handover ceremony of sponsorship contributions from the ministry's strategic partners for HKHM 2025.

Fahmi said the ministry had also received sponsorship contributions from 113 strategic partners in the form of cash, in-kind goods, and services.

"Of this, RM1.9 million was in cash contributions, while RM19.97 million comprised in-kind goods and services.

"This represents nearly a fivefold increase compared with last year, and our highest appreciation and thanks go to all sponsoring partners," he said.

He added that all cash sponsorships will be channelled into the Merdeka Secretariat Trust Account (AASM) and used for preparations for the celebrations.

Meanwhile, in-kind contributions in the form of goods will be distributed by the ministry's volunteering team to members of the public attending the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya and the Malaysia Day celebrations at Dewan PICCA, Butterworth, Penang.
