I am a former editor and contributor to the BuzzFeed shopping team with over seven years of experience testing and recommending products that help make life a little easier, whether that’s ultralight gear, holy grail serum, jeans that fit just right, or anything in between.

Unless otherwise specified, all sizes in this post are listed in women's.

1. A pair of climbing pants because "sending temps" are upon us at last! There's nothing like brisk autumn air to let you know that you're about to finally check your project off the list, and these stunners will help you look and feel your best while doing so.

Patagonia

Promising review: "The Free Wall Pants are everything I’ve wanted in an outdoor pant: great fit, durable, adjustable waist and ankle cinches, and water resistant. These have been hiking, climbing, camping, and paddling with me so far and will be going on all my future adventures." —Sarah

Price: $155 (available in sizes 00–22 and three colors)

2. The iconic Nano Puff hoodie that could be the only thing Patagonia sells, and they'd still be one of the best outdoor brands out there. It perfectly balances warmth, breathability, and packability — kinda the three most important things a puffer can do!

Patagonia

Promising review: "I love this jacket, and got it to replace an older one that I've outgrown. This jacket is perfect for temperate PNW weather — wind- and water-resistant, hooded for unexpected draughts, long enough in the torso to keep my low back warm even with movement, zippered pockets — it has it all, in a lightweight, packable package. I like that it has a feminine cut (not boxy). My go-to jacket for daily wear." —Sati

Price: $299 (available in sizes XXS–XXL, six colors, and two other styles)

3. Baggy shorts whose ~amphibious~ nature can get you from the hike to the creek bed to the paddle board to the jog, and beyond. Talk about a multi-purpose piece.

Patagonia

Promising review: "Been wearing Patagonia’s Baggies shorts since 2020 and they’re easily my favorite shorts I’ve owned. Super comfortable, fits great, and holds up really well. I’ve bought many pairs over the years and keep coming back to them. Definitely one of those things I’ll continue buying for a long time." —Neo H.

Price: $75 (available in sizes XXS–XXL, two inseam lengths, and eight colors)

4. A minimalsports bra so you always have one you can rely on to get you through a day of Type 2 fun. You know, the kind where the activity you're doing is most fun in hindsight. A long hike to the crag before a bouldering sesh, perhaps?

Patagonia

Promising review: "I love this bra. This is my third time buying it. It is lightweight and easy on/off. I am about a 36 A/B, and I hate the compression bras because they are so hard to get on and off, and are too tight. I bought a medium, and it fits perfectly." —Susan

Price: $59 (available in sizes XXS–XL and six colors)

5. A Synchilla Snap-T pullover that will swaddle you in coziness all winter long if you let it. I'm a huge fan of a bold pattern on fleece, and Patagonia's selections always majorly deliver.

Patagonia

Promising review: "This fleece is so soft, warm, and comfortable. It fits perfectly under my rain jacket and keeps me nice and warm on rainy fall days." —Brooke

Price: $149 (available in sizes XXS–XXL and eight colors)

6. A Nano Puff vest for the shoulder seasons when you're not-quite-cold, not-quite-warm, and not quite sure what to wear. The eternal answer? This vest.

Patagonia

Promising review: "These vests are great. Have them in several colors. Vest is great for walking the dogs, birding, or hanging in the house. Love having outside and an inside pocket as well as a chest pocket. Can carry what I need with me. They hold up well!!" —Claudia

Price: $199 (available in sizes XXS–XXL and eight colors)

7. A Capilene Cool long-sleeve shirt that is one of my most essential pieces of gear, full stop. And YES. Outdoor clothing counts as "gear." I bought this shirt five years ago to embark on my first backpacking trip, and it's come with me on almost every trip since, not to mention hundreds of hikes and runs in between. True to its name, it keeps me cool, and the sun stays off my back, literally. Could not recommend more highly.

Patagonia

Promising review: "This top checks all the boxes! Fabric is lightweight, cooling, and comfortable. Fits perfectly, not like many tops that are too short. Blue color is beautiful. Hope you’ll make more colors in the future." —Melissa M.

Price: $59 (available in sizes XXS–XXL, six colors, and three other styles)

8. A Capilene Cool sun hoodie if you want the same cooling effect *plus* UPF 40 sun protection, a hood to keep the sun off of your neck, and thumbholes to keep your hands protected. Don't mind me, just adding one in every color to my cart.

Patagonia

Promising review: "I couldn't be happier to have purchased this shirt. The hood protects my ears and back of the neck, the sleeves mean I no longer have to slather on the sun screen, and the bugs are a non issue now! It is super light and the breeze goes right through the fabric." —Kim B.

Price: $89 (available in sizes XS–XXL and five colors)

9. Trail shorts for hiking your little booty off, as long as the weather allows. Autumn is incoming, which means you can definitely squeeze in a few more summits before going ski mode, and what better fall hiking look is there than shorts and a fleece?

Patagonia

Promising review: "Finally, a long(ish) inseam that doesn't ride up! These shorts have great thigh coverage and stay put, which feels like a miracle — if you've got mountain thighs, you know what I'm talking about. Not too tight in the rear, either. Zip pockets are a new feature for me, but I like that they hold all my snack wrappers securely. And they're big enough for my phone at the post-run coffee shop stop. Gonna be my 100-mile race shorts without a doubt this year." —Leigh

Price: $75 (available in sizes XS–XXL and five colors)

10. The "Better Sweater" jacket that looks as at home in the wilderness as it does in the office if you style it just right. Consider yourself packed for your after-work fishing trip.

Patagonia

Promising review: "As usual, the better sweater holds up to its cool look and superior quality. It has a slim fit and is great for cool weather. This is usually my go-to quick jacket sweater I reach for again and again!" —Vp1

Price: $169 (available in sizes XXS–XXL, 10 colors, and two other styles)

11. Utility pants you'll find yourself reaching for alllll the time whenever you want to rock a relaxed style in the streets or take a chill little hike. Get a pair that can do both.

Patagonia

Promising review: "This was my second pair. The first pair I bought, sizing up (I am in between sizes), but the larger size tends to get very loose after a wear. So I purchased another color one size down, and they are working out perfectly. Great for activities that require lots of movement, and they transition to office wear nicely as well." —A W.

Price: $135 (available in sizes 0–22 and six colors)

12. "Daily gloves" that'll live up to the name once winter is here and you're battling snow and icy air. These are moisture-wicking and touchscreen capable, so you can answer all those people who need you so badly. Slow down, people. Our office jobs are not an emergency.

Patagonia

Promising review: "Love these gloves. The fit is great. I was concerned about using them with my phone and navigation screen in the car, but I've had no problems. The touchscreen capability works well. The gloves are perfect for brisk weather and driving. When it's really cold or snowing, I'll wear mittens over them. I live in Texas, where it doesn't get very cold, so lightweight gloves like these are very useful. And, I like the way they feel on my hand. Wonderful added features: the loop at the wrist is a nice touch, making it easy to get the gloves on, and the clasp keeps the gloves together when not in use. Little features like this make a big impact." —Adventurous D.

Price: $59 (available in sizes XS–XL and four colors)

13. A handsome longline rain jacket perfect for city living (looking at you, Pacific Northwest) or for throwing on over your regular clothes to go to and fro when the weather is tough. The sleep snaps and angled pockets are particularly eye-catching, don't you agree?

Patagonia

Promising review: "Bought this for a move to a rainy city. Have tested it out in spring showers, and it is just what I need. It is lightweight and keeps me dry." —JJ

Price: $259 (available in sizes XS–XXL and four colors)

14. Or a Torrentshell rain jacket that's more suited for outdoor adventures thanks to a lighter weight, a two-way adjustable hood with a visor, a microfleece-lined neck for comfort, and pit zips — literally everybody's favorite rain jacket feature when they're grooving on the trail.

Patagonia

Promising review: "I bought this jacket with the intention of spending good money on something that was good quality. I’ve worn it several times outside in the pouring rain and have stayed dry every single time. I recommend this jacket to everyone now!" —Rebecca

Price: $189 (available in sizes XXS–XXL and 10 colors)

15. A rugby shirt for whenever you want to go cool girl mode, full stop. I can really see this working at the climbing gym, especially if you're bouldering, but it's up for happy hour, too. Whatever you want, dude!

Patagonia

Promising review: "The rugby shirt has been my all-time favorite piece in Patagonia history, and I'm so thrilled to finally have one in a cut that fits me perfectly! The crop is such a great design choice for my body type, and it looks incredible on me. The quality is there as always, and it's very sturdy but still soft. I love not having to tuck in a super long shirt! I have no doubt I'll have this piece for decades. Patagonia, please keep this in the annual rotation, I'll buy one every year!" —Heather

Price: $129 (available in sizes XS–XL and five colors)

16. Thermal bottoms to keep those leggies of yours warm and dry, thanks to an open grid microfiber fabric and a close (but not constrictive) fit. Snow days just got all the better.

Patagonia

Price: $109 (available in sizes XXS–XL and four colors)

17. A fisherman's beanie because the right hat really is the cherry on top of any fit, especially when temperatures drop. Wear it to the farmers market, trailhead, and movies in one day. I triple dog dare you.

Patagonia

Promising review: "It's comfy, warm, and looks great. What more could you ask for in a beanie?" —Mason Y.

Price: $45 (available in six colors)

Patagonia

Promising review: "This is a great, lightweight flannel shirt perfect for our mild Bay Area, California climate. The fit is superb for my 5’2” slight frame, and the fabric is uber soft! I appreciate that Patagonia included a nice, dark shirt that isn’t pink or baby blue. A definite keeper!" —Nancy

Price: $95 (available in sizes XS–XL and six colors)

19. A micro fleece quarter zip to serve as the base of any functional winter 'fits, should you choose to give it the mission. Thin enough to layer but thick enough to make a real difference in warmth, it's a layering dream.

Patagonia

Promising review: "I have five of these in different colors. It is my favorite piece of clothing. During the pandemic, I sent this to 10 of my friends as a long-distance hug from me." —Kathleen

Price: $75 (available in sizes XXS–XXL and five colors)

21. An Air Fleece jacket that's mega warming, mega venting, quick drying, and down for adventure. I'm blown away by how far fleece tech has come in the last five years. Time to upgrade our setups.

Patagonia

Promising review: "This jacket is perfect in every way. Great fit, and the sleeves are just right. Fit is exact and keeps me warm yet wicks away sweat. I want to get another color!" —Isabel

Price: $165 (available in sizes XXS–XL, six colors, and four other styles)

22. An oversize vintage-inspired tee because adding a new one to the collection is always a good call. I'm not always down with a graphic tee, but this design is really speaking to me. Good job, graphic designer! I hope you get a raise.

Patagonia

Promising review: "These pants stay put, wear well, and solve the ‘where-to-put-my-stuff problem! They are high-waisted, but that is why they work for me. I bought a pair last summer and then just ordered two more! Thanks, Patagonia!" —Laurel M.

Patagonia

Promising review: "Have been wearing merino socks for many years, and have been bummed out by most manufacturers reducing their wool content. It's been almost impossible to find anything above 80% merino wool (anything below 80% drastically reduces the quality — you can really feel the difference). Thank you, Patagonia, for making these 84% wool socks. Worth every penny. These will be my go-to hiking socks for as long as you keep making them." —B R.
