I'm a resident writer, cat mom, and obsessive online shopper who is passionate about quirky pet products, home decor, size-inclusive fashion, and, above all, perfumes.

1. Catrice "Instant Awake" under-eye brightener that'll help conceal dark circles with a more natural finish than a traditional color-correcting concealer. It's lightweight, buildable, and formulated with hyaluronic acid and shea butter for a seamless, skin-like finish.

www.amazon.com

It's color-adapting, so one of four shades will work well for any skin tone! To use, apply this in thin layers to avoid creasing, then follow with your favorite concealer and setting powder if you like. If you don't like applying products with your fingers, they also make a triangle-shaped puff that's perfect for using with this.

Promising review: "Took years off my eyes! This product is so reasonably priced. I came across a TikTok promoting this and decided to take a chance since the price was super reasonable. My eyes looked brighter in a good way, and the concealer worked so well that I felt I looked younger. I got compliments from friends asking what I did differently with my makeup. I recommend it." —Placeholder

Get it from Amazon for $6 (available in four shades).

2. Some Essence Lash Princess mascara for that dramatic false lash effect when you don't feel like waking up 30 minutes early to glue little pieces of polyester to your eyelids. It lengthens, defines, and adds a fair amount of volume to your lashes, without weighing them down — even if yourlashes are straight naturally. Seriously, this mascara is like a pair of mainstage curtains for your eyeballs...and it's only $5.

Emma Lord / BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord says, "I bought into the hype of all the 5-star reviews, and now I will never look back!! Putting it on is like giving my eyelashes butterfly wings. It doesn't get clumpy, it stays put no matter how much you sweat, and you can apply it on very lightly if you don't want it to look so dramatic or continue applying for longer lashes each time."

Promising review: "Saw this product on TikTok and thought it would be expensive, looking at the results they got. I am beyond amazed with how my lashes look after about two coats. For around $5, you couldn’t ask for a better mascara! I will be buying this same one when I run out. I was not expecting to like it as much as I do! No complaints." —Kd

Get it from Amazon for $4.97 (available in four colors; also available in a three-pack).

3. A breathable Glossier skin tint designed to enhance your skin's natural features rather than hide any of your perfect, unique quirks like freckles or moles. The lightweight, sheer formula simply evens your skin tone without sinking into wrinkles or pores.

Sephora

Promising review: "60 is the new 30! Like others have written, I was skeptical about trying sight-unseen makeup. But I kept coming back to Glossier, saying to myself, 'Could this be as good as everyone says?' I finally ordered a few items, including the skin tint. When first putting it on, you think it does nothing but add moisture and shine. But a few minutes later, you have this lovely, better-than-bare finish to your face that is a great base for whatever else you want to apply. In places I’ve wanted a bit more coverage, I put the face tint on first and let it dry a bit before blending. Like others have said, it does not cover up anything; it just makes you look like you, but better. And most importantly, it does not leave anything in lines or on dry skin. In fact, I believe it helps alleviate dry skin. Not sure how I will feel in warmer weather, but in the cold, dry East Coast, it’s fabulous!" —Missy248

Get it from Glossier or Sephora for $28 (available in 12 shades).

4. Nyx's new liquid foundation to get full coverage with a weightless feel. It has a soft matte finish, inspired by the currently trending ~cloud skin~ effect that is super popular in the world of K-beauty. Reviewers LOVE the range of undertones, btw — there are even shades for us olives!

www.amazon.com, Amazon

Promising reviews: "Wow!! Blown away!! Nyx Please don’t stop selling this product. Best foundation on the market. Out-performing my Givenchy. ❤️" —Carrie Sessions

"I always use high-end foundation. I saw a YouTube video, and a relative also recommended this foundation. They said it looks like skin. I always have difficulty finding a match. I always get close enough and work with it. Well, I’ll be darned if I didn’t find a color that matched me exactly. I put it on, and my family asked me where. They thought it was my skin! 5 stars for the color match!!!!!! And my skin is super oily, I got 7 hours wear and medium coverage. It is buildable to full. Make sure you do all your prep. This is a good drugstore foundation." —bonnijean

Get it from Amazon for $13.30+ (available in 45 shades).

5. E.l.f. Power Grip Primer, which is a way cheaper swap for theMilk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer, and I'd say it works *just* as well. It dries to a slightly sticky (but don't worry, it's not glue-like) finish, so your makeup will literally stay adhered to your face ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT. Plus, it's super moisturizing and leaves your base makeup with a really beautiful dewy finish.

Amazon, Karly Jacklin / BuzzFeed

That's me on the right after a night out, and in that photo I'm also wearing the E.l.f. Power Grip setting spray, which pairs beautifully with the primer.

Promising review: "It's such a game changer. The gel formula is so smooth and hydrating, and it really does give your makeup something to cling to, which makes it last all day. Plus, the size is perfect for travel — sometimes the full-sized ones are just too big to carry around, but this one’s easy to toss in your bag without it taking up space. And the fact that you only need a little bit? Even better, because it makes it more cost-effective in the long run." —Erin Foster

Get it from Amazon for $7+ (available in three sizes).

6. Or E.l.f.'s Poreless Putty Primer to give you that super trendy 'cloud skin' look that leaves your pores looking blurred (almost like a beauty filter IRL). It's similar to the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer, but way cheaper.

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising reviews: "I was super impressed with this primer after have tried Tatcha Silk Canvas. The textures in my opinion were nearly identical! It was easy to spread, it felt like silk but not like super silicone or anything like that, very velvet like. No scent, my makeup didn’t separate nor crease, key is a little goes a very long way. For the price, you can’t beat it!" —Brandy Dail

"Highly recommend. Learned about it as several influencers used it on TikTok. Tried it and it’s my favorite. Better than all the expensive brands I had tried before. Smooth application and does an excellent job! Excellent." —Binnyx1

Get it from Amazon for $11

7. A winged eyeliner stamp you'll want to try if you don't have the time to sit there and freehand your eyeliner for 45 minutes every day — this stamp lets you get the perfect cat-eye every time in just a few seconds. Plus, reviewers with tremors love how easy this tool is to use.

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising review: "I have never ever been able to apply eyeliner. I am 62 and have slightly hooded eyes. I've never had the patience. This was easy peasy. I used it the first night I got it and received several comments on my makeup! Love it." —Caribare

Get it from Amazon for $14.98 (available in three sizes).

8. A Neutrogena makeup eraser stick to help you in a pinch when you're already running late and messed up your winged eyeliner or bold lip.

Amazon

Promising reviews: "Why didn’t someone think of this sooner? For years, I’ve been using cotton swabs dipped in makeup remover to remove little goofs or mistakes. This is so much better and portable! Erases waterproof mascara marks around my eyes easily. Must-buy product!!" —Katherine

"I would buy this over and over again..." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $9.93

9. Clinique Almost Lipstick Tinted Lip Balm in Black Honey — the '90s cult-fave tint that experienced a massive renaissance on TikTok in the early 2020s (with a fanbase that just keeps growing) because of its universally complementary berry color that slightly deepens and majorly enhances your natural shade. It's also got buildable pigment, so you can wear it for both soft and full glam looks.

Amazon

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lordsays, "I was very adamant about not buying this for the longest time because I am stubborn about "expensive" beauty products, but this is worth every penny and then some. It's so lightweight and layerable, it's foolproof to apply, and I have yet to wear a single outfit it doesn't complement??? Ilove watching it instantly elevate a casual look or add simple elegance to dressy ones. I wear it every day now, and after weeks of use, I've barely made a dent. Also, and maybe this is just me, but I tend to get pigment on my teeth with a lot of lip products, and I've simply never had an issue with this magic stick."

Check out this TikTok of someone using it on their lips AND cheeks.

Get it from Amazon for $25 (also available in pink honey and nude honey).

10. Or E.l.f.'s Hydrating Core Lip Shine, because the "Ecstatic" shade just happens to be a very close match to "Black Honey." This $8 version is super hydrating, and the buildable, deep berry color looks stunning on all complexions.

www.amazon.com

Promising reviews: "I absolutely love this product. The dark color is perfectly sheer. It also adds the most beautiful color to your lips. I am a Clinique Black Honey lip fan, and this gives me the same look for a fraction of the cost. I love it and have several that I keep in various spots. Not sticky either, which is my biggest gripe about lip glosses. My hair doesn’t get stuck in this like some glosses, but I get the shine." —Hamps5

"I searched high and low for this color after I saw it on, guess what ... TikTok! And the creator was right, it’s great for everyone. It’s not too dark or too light. Keeps my lips hydrated with a bit of color and shine. Love it." —Erin C.

Get it from Amazon for $8 (also available in seven other shades).

11. Julep's waterproof cream-to-powder eyeshadow stick that's infused with ingredients that your skin will absolutely love — it has vitamins C and E to help hydrate that super delicate skin on your eyelids (instead of irritating them like other eyeshadows 😒). Plus, it's soooo easy to use. It goes on like a crayon and really doesn't even require any blending (or messing with brushes in general) to get a glamorous look.

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising review: "Wow! That’s how I’ll start this review off. These (I bought two, then immediately purchased two more shades) shadows are so easy to apply. The color is deep and shimmery, easy to work with and blend. Once applied, it stays put, too, no creeping away from the eye area. I even rubbed my eye at one point — it didn’t transfer to my hand. And when I checked my look in a mirror, expecting to see my shadow blurred or removed, it wasn’t. All looked as if I had just applied it. Please also note that it is super easy to remove when you’re ready to go to bed — a little makeup remover, and you’re all done. I love this product — lasts for hours — and all the color choices too! The price is great too." —LLA

"I am impressed with the Julep Eyeshadow Cream to Powder Waterproof Shadow sticks. I have tried other brands and they do not glide on as smoothly or have the rich color of the Julep brand. As a mature woman, I appreciate that the product does not settle in wrinkles but glides over making a smooth-looking lid. I also find them so easy to travel with and they don't take up much space in my makeup bag, no brush or applicator needed! There are so many great colors to choose from and they are easy to remove at the end of the day with a makeup cleansing wipe." —MD Ochoa

Get it from Amazon for $20 (available in 37 shades).

12. And Elizabeth Mott eye primer to help keep your eyeshadow right where it is supposed to be — not hiding in your eyelid creases, not running down your cheek... on 👏 your 👏 eyelids. 👏

www.amazon.com

Promising review: "I feel so stupid...I'm 65 years old and have always been annoyed by the fact that by mid-afternoon, my upper lids would be oily, shiny, and sporting a stripe from my eyeliner. I didn't think there was a cure. Then stumbled upon the idea of using a primer/foundation designed for the eyelids. What? How BRILLIANT!! Who would have thought? I dipped my toe into the water and purchased one tube of the Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer. I don't use eye shadow on my lids, but I do use it as a liner on my lower lashes. (I add water to compressed eye shadow and put it on my skin with a sponge-end pencil thing). This stuff ROCKS!! At the end of a hot Texas day, my lids are still as fresh and dry as they were at 6 a.m. And it only takes a pinhead-sized drop to cover one entire lid from lashes to eyebrow, with enough left to cover the lower lid area as well. It's creamy but dries very quickly. Awesome! The only thing that keeps this product from being 100% perfect is that it has a chemical smell when you first put it on...BUT...after a few minutes, the smell is gone, and my eye makeup looks impeccable for 12+ hours. Obviously, I highly recommend this product. They've found a lifetime customer with me." —ShortieTX

Get it from Amazon for $14.99.

13. A lightweight Laneige JuicePop Box lip tint that applies smoothly with a water-like texture, then transforms into a gorgeously shiny and unbelievably hydrating oil. It's got buildable color, so you can wear it as bold or "barely there" as you'd like. Or you can layer two colors to maximize their joint slay! The cap also features a handy little loop so you can rock it as a keychain or bag charm, too.

Promising review: "I just got this and I can’t even tell you how much I love this product! It has an awesome tint to it and is just amazing. It basically goes on like water and transforms into a lip oil. 10 out of 10, I definitely recommend." —aliceuny

Get it from Amazonor Sephora for $23 (available in eight shades).

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising reviews: "I’d yet to find anything (even foundation) that could cover up my red areas. Checks, chin, nose, and forehead. It comes out green, but has a gorgeous lightweight finish of a tint that indeed covers my redness beautifully. There’s no greasiness to it at all. It dries down to a beautiful matte finish. It’s super easy to use. I use my fingers. The texture is like silk. It leaves my face baby-soft, not sticky at all. It doesn’t settle into my fine lines or wrinkles, and I don’t need powder to 'bake' it under my eyes. It also covers the black circles under my eyes." —Julie F.

"I have been using this product for approximately a month, and it covers well. I have used it both alone and under foundation. Covers red well. It is not as smooth as some of the other high-end products, but for the price point, it’s great, and I will buy it again." —Heather

16. Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Concealer, which has been a beauty staple for over a decade for a reason. It offers buildable coverage, so it's got your back (er, face?) whether you're looking to conceal dark circles, redness, pimples — or just add some luster to dull skin. It's also formulated with haloxyl, an ingredient that may help reduce dark circles over time.

Kayla Suazo / BuzzFeed, www.amazon.com

Promising reviews: "I have extremely dark under-eye circles. Honestly that is the only reason I wear makeup, is to cover them. I've used numerous kinds of concealers. Tarte Shape Tape, Mary Kay, Estée Lauder (assorted kinds), IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye, Clinique, Laura Mercier, Mac, and Bobby Brown. I usually spend anywhere from $25-30 on one tube of concealer and still feel unsatisfied with the coverage. Or it looks too heavy and thick by the time i set with a damp makeup sponge and powder (accentuating my under-eye fine lines). This little gem is great. I use this concealer every day instead of all my high-end brand concealers. It's full coverage, buildable, lasts all day, not drying and not too liquidy. I'm so happy I gave this a try, will definitely be keeping this baby in my everyday makeup bag." —Brittney

"Oh my gosh. I have spent so much money on expensive concealers and this is my all-time favorite. I’m 61 and starting to get crepey skin under my eyes. Other concealers make it worse, but I also have dark circles so I feel like I need something. And this is it! Moisturizing, silky and covers the circles. I love it!" —Lynnette Smith

Get it from Amazon for $9.98 (available in 17 shades).

17. MagicMinerals AirBrush Foundation that reviewers in their 30s, 40s, and beyond can't get enough of because of how effectively it covers redness while *not* sinking into any fine lines. The unique spray-on formula is lightweight and spreads on your skin like butter with the included brush.

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Jerome Alexander is a small business that specializes in airbrush cosmetic products.

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord says, "HELLO — I found this through a recommendation on a Reddit beauty forum for people in their 30s, and I am OBSESSED. I am not very skilled with makeup and was intimidated by the brush factor, but it's nearly foolproof. This foundation straight-up glosses over my pores and redness and makes my skin look so even-toned and natural that it doesn't look like I used much foundation at all. It's a bit price-y compared to brands I used in the past, but I'm still on my first bottle of it, and it's been three full months. I hope this never stops getting made. It is so lightweight and lovely and has made my makeup routine feel like a TREAT."

Promising review: "Bought this because I saw it on TikTok, and it did not disappoint. I love the lightweight feel of it and how easy it is to build." —Smickens

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising review: "This is the perfect color. Application was a breeze. You can use it as a harsh line or feather it and rub it with your finger for more of a softer vibe. Lasted me at least 8 hours, and I was putting a gloss over the top to keep my lips from drying out." —Cassies favorites

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Get it from Amazon for $4.96+ (available in 11 shades and in multipacks).

20. A dual-ended freckle penthat's got a stamp side and a precision point felt tip for the best faux freckles you've ever applied. The stamp has a cluster of circles and irregular, oblong shapes, so they look more natural than a bunch of perfect dots. With the single-tipped side, you can use it to create more precise beauty marks and darker freckles, too. Plus, the shade range is *amazing* — with versatile, blendable browns that truly work with a wide variety of skin tones.

www.amazon.com, Karly Jacklin / BuzzFeed

Promising review: "This pen works on Black women! Finally found a pen that shows on my skin and stays on until you literally scrub it off with a makeup wipe. Very much smudge proof! I even cried and it didn’t come off. People actually think the freckles are real! I used sheer skin tint foundation before that I wore concealer with another freckle pen and it absorbed the product. Not sure if this is why the product didn’t work. But this pen is the truth!! And for a reasonable price! Will be buying again! By the way I’m 45 years old and this is amazing on my skin!" —Tanya

Get it from Amazon for $7.99+ (available in three shades).

21. Etude's Dear Darling Water Tint, a multifunctional product that is comparable to Benefit's Lip Tint. It's technically a sheer wash of color for your lips, but reviewers like using it on their cheeks, too.

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising review: "While I haven't tried the Benefit Lip Tint, I saw this on TikTok and appreciated the lower price point. I am SO glad I gave this a chance! I only have the Cherry color, but it is the perfect bit of natural color, and can be deepened as desired upon application. There is no sticky residue and it is not drying or irritating at all. Looks great alone but even better with gloss on top. Love!" —Mollie

Get it from Amazon for $6.16+ (available in eight shades and combo packs).

22. Maybelline Cloudtopia blush with a finger-friendly mousse formula that melts into your skin and gives you a natural, just-been-flirted-with glow. It can also be used as a subtle lip color — and give you that "blurry" lip look popularized by makeup artist Nina Park that's been growing in popularity on TikTok.

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com

Promising review: "Pigmented, easy to blend, smooth, long lasting, and so much more. Maybelline Cloudtopia blushes are top of the line. The formula is exquisite. These moussey blushes feel and look a lot like the very popular Korean brands pudding pots. The texture is very soft and pleasant, they come in little glass jars that are thick and good quality, and the price is very affordable. They can be used in both cheeks and lips and a little dot goes a long way. The shade range is excellent. I bought Coral Illusion, Pink Daydream and Divine Crimson. I like how blendable they are and how you can build the pigment. They have a soft matte finish that is very blurring for both lips and cheeks. It is a very practical product, excellent for traveling and it doesn't occupy much space on your makeup bag. I am in love with these, and I highly recommend them." —Yise

Get it from $7.98 (available in 10 shades).

23. The Urban Decay Tube Job mascara, available in FIVE (!!!) shades inspired by natural hair colors. Gingers and blondes — this is BIG news. YUP, you can stop settling for brown mascaras and start rocking your natural (or, in my case, unnatural...but let's keep that between us) hue. It's also a tubing mascara, which wraps around your lashes to take them to new, never-before-seen heights — and it dissolves with just warm water.

Karly Jacklin / BuzzFeed, Ulta

Listen — and I'll tell you this because you're like my bestie, and I can literally feel our heartbeats syncing through my screen — my bright orange redhead era was also my fraudulent hair-a. But I had everybody fooled for a good three years...and I kept the long con going 'til the very end with THIS AMAZING MASCARA! While it works amazing on its own, when I wanted that beautiful ginger hue to shine, I paired it with a white primer (this one from Tarte, to be specific) to cover my black lashes and topped it with Tube Job in auburn – and boy howdy, did that color come through.

My lashes are super. Freaking. Straight. But this formula actually held a curl, AND lasted through an impromptu bar crawl (I mention that it was impromptu because I wasn't planning on staying out in the Tucson heat all night, so I used no primer or setting spray — and it still STAYED PUT).

And even though I've gone back to the dark side (with my hair...tsk, tsk), I went and bought the natural black color of this mascara, too...because I missed the little butterfly wings on my lashes. It's just that good.

Get it from Ulta for $25 (available in five shades).

Promising review: "I’ve tried so many eyebrow products, and the L’Oréal eyebrow filler pen is the first one that truly delivers hairlike strokes that look natural and defined. It’s incredibly easy to use and gives a realistic finish that blends beautifully with my natural brows. What impressed me, even more, is the price — finally, a product that works and doesn’t break the bank! The cost is totally reasonable, especially considering the quality of the outcome." —Kelly V.

Amazon, www.amazon.com

Promising review: "I have super oily skin and am always looking for something to help control it during the day. The linen squares are good, but you have to keep them around (aka keep replacing them), and they end up in the landfill. This little contraption really works, and I just rinse it at the end of the day and start over again the next. I keep one in my desk and bought a second for my purse. This is magic for my shiny skin, especially on camera in my hours of Zoom every day." —Jennifer Helseth

Promising review: "What can I say, I saw a TikTok about this lipstick, and for $10 had to try it! The reviews are right, for some reason, this lipstick is better than even $20 name-brand ones bought from Ulta. Not only does it smell great, but dries in under a minute and survived eating a cupcake, a Starbucks drink, and an entire evening out, no smudging, and had to be removed with a makeup wipe. Fantastic product!!" —Claire

We cut through fake deals, favor useful info over glossy fluff, and recommend both budget and splurge options with context so you can decide what’s right for you — and still have a little fun along the way.
