In a startling incident, a 58-year-old woman named Chen, who works as a kitchen assistant, was allegedly assaulted by a group of three to four youths riding a personal mobility device (PMD) in Sengkang in the early hours of the morning. As per a report by Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred around 5:30 am on March 22, 2024, near Block 400C Fernvale Lane.

According to Chen, she was on her way to catch a bus to work when she heard some noises coming from behind her. She turned back and saw three to four youths riding on a single PMD on the road. Worried about the possibility of a collision, she decided to cross the road. However, the group of youths followed her, leading to a distressing turn of events.

Chen claimed that one of the youths struck her on the left buttock with a rod-like object, causing her severe pain and shock. She immediately threatened to call the police, but the youths only laughed and continued to intimidate her.

Despite the painful injury, Chen initially decided to continue working, but her back pain worsened progressively, leading her to seek medical attention. By 10 am, she visited a doctor who prescribed her painkillers, ointments, and provided three days of sick leave. The doctor suspected that she might have injured her tailbone, causing her not only pain in her hip muscles but also discomfort in her shoulders, neck, and upper back.

The police are currently investigating this incident, and the group of perpetrators is still at large. This incident is a concerning reminder of the importance of safety and respect for others while using personal mobility devices in public spaces.
