SHAH ALAM: A total of 35 National River Trail (DSK) programmes have been implemented nationwide this year as part of the government's efforts to safeguard river sustainability, the country's main source of water.

Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli said the initiative is aimed at fostering a sense of ownership, raising community awareness, and encouraging responsibility for river conservation, while also helping to reduce pollution.

"In addition, the construction of these trails promotes recreational activities along riverbanks and stimulates the local economy through river-based eco-tourism.

"Six DSK programmes have been carried out in Selangor alone," he said in a statement today.

The statement was issued in conjunction with the opening of the Langat River Trail in Kuala Langat by Mad Zaidi today.

The Langat River Trail project, which involved upgrading a 1.3km stretch of the river trail, began on April 7 this year and was completed on June 2.

Visitors can now enjoy a complete 2.6km situated beside the Paya Bakau Recreational Park in Kampung Sijangkang.
