Looking to venture beyond Pulau Ubin? Singapore is home to several offshore islands that offer a refreshing escape from the city. With just a ferry ride away, these 4 islands should be on your to-go list next:

St. John Island:

Just a short ferry ride from Marina South Pier, St. John’s Island is a peaceful retreat known for its laid-back atmosphere and unspoiled natural scenery. Spend the day exploring its lagoons, swimming at the beaches, enjoying a seaside picnic, or strolling along its scenic walking trails.

If a day trip isn’t enough, you can even stay overnight in the island’s holiday bungalows and chalets, which accommodate up to 10 guests and come equipped with kitchen facilities. Book here.

For a deeper look into Singapore’s marine ecosystem, visit the public gallery at the St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory, where interactive exhibits showcase the rich biodiversity found in local waters. They periodically host open houses and “Meet-a Scientist” programs for kids. There will be one happening on 27 June 2026, a perfect time to bring the little ones there.

Kusu Island

Known as Tortoise Island, Kusu Island is a tranquil space with sacred sites for worship. The island is home to the popular Da Bo Gong Temple, where devotees visit throughout the year to seek blessings and offer prayers.

Beyond the temple, visitors can explore three Malay shrines, or Kramats, located atop a hill. Animal lovers can also stop by the island’s tortoise sanctuary, which houses hundreds of tortoises and turtles.

With shaded picnic shelters scattered around the island, Kusu Island is a great place to unwind by the sea. Just remember to keep an eye on your food, as there are many monkeys around.

Sister’s Island

Sister’s Islands is Singapore’s first marine park, which protects the country’s coral reefs and marine life. One of the special features is the 220m floating boardwalk, serving as a coral habitat and research site. It rises and falls with the tides, allowing visitors to view corals and marine biodiversity up close regardless of the tide level.

You can sign up for a free guided walk here

Big Sister’s Island is open from 7am to 7pm. Closed on the first and third Wednesday of each month, unless the Wednesday falls on a designated Public Holiday, in which case the island will remain open to visitors.

Lazarus Island:

If you’re dreaming of crystal-clear waters and soft sandy beaches, Lazarus Island is one of Singapore’s best-kept secrets. Often compared to a quieter version of Sentosa, the island is loved for its tranquil atmosphere and uncrowded shoreline.

Getting there is easy — simply take a ferry to St. John’s Island and cross the connecting causeway. The walk will take around 10 to 15 minutes with rewarding views along the way.

Whether you’re planning a beach picnic, a relaxing swim, or simply looking to disconnect from the city for a few hours, Lazarus Island makes for an idyllic island escape without leaving Singapore.
