Four people were killed and three others injured after an 11-vehicle accident along the East Coast Expressway in Pahang on Monday (Aug 31) night. 

The incident, involving a tank truck, an express bus, a pickup truck, and eight cars, happened at about 10.45pm at the 110.4km mark of the expressway, near Temerloh toll plaza. 

Mohd Salahuddin Isa, assistant director of operations at the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, said the male driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and his two passengers — a woman and a boy, and a man travelling in another SUV, died at the scene. 

They are believed to be family members. 

According to Salahuddin, the four victims were trapped under the two cars, and firefighters spent over an hour to extricate their bodies.

He added that two of the three injured are in a serious condition, but the 30 bus passengers escaped unscathed.

Police investigations are ongoing.
