7.4-magnitude earthquake strikes near east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka region, no tsunami risk

RUSSIA – There was no threat of a tsunami after an earthquake of 7.4 magnitude struck near the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka region on Sept 13 , the US National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii said.
The United States Geological Survey pegged the earthquake at 7.4 magnitude, with a depth of 39.5km .
The German Research Centre for Geosciences had the earthquake at 7.1 magnitude , with a depth of 10km .
The tsunami warning centre had said earlier there was a threat of a possible tsunami from the earthquake.
In Japan, to the south-west of the Kamchatka Peninsula, no tsunami warning has been issued, broadcaster NHK reported, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency. REUTERS
