“Straightforward floral fragrances aren’t my thing; I like my floral notes accompanied with a little extra something, and in Byredo’s Bal D’Afrique, it’s the earthy heart notes of violet and cyclamen and a woody base of cedarwood and vetiver. Office perfumes, to me, are like mini escapes with every sniff. Bal D’Afrique takes me somewhere in nature, wandering aimlessly just for the sake of wandering (as someone who’s constantly going from point A to B in an urban jungle, this feels like a luxury!), but it doesn’t smell so overwhelming that I risk driving my deskmates away.
