AMD CEO Lisa Su said the world is still in the early years of a decade-long cycle of rapid AI growth and infrastructure expansion during the Axios AI+ Summit in Washington, D.C., on September 17.

Su, who has led the US chipmaker for over a decade, pointed to large investments in data centers, chip development, and AI models that are reshaping the US economy and boosting Wall Street valuations.

She emphasized a strong demand for high-performance chips during the AI boom and called AI the most transformative technology of her career, possibly of any of our lifetimes.

Su praised the Trump administration’s tech leadership and described its action plan as a good blueprint.

She urged faster action to keep US leadership in AI, supporting policies for domestic manufacturing, easier data center construction, and a stable energy supply.

Su disagreed with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s call to ban chip exports to China, but supported current export controls on advanced chips, noting AMD and Nvidia agreed to pay the US government 15% of revenue from advanced chip sales to China.

She cited industry estimates that the market for AI data center accelerators could reach US$500 billion in the next three to four years, and mentioned AI’s potential in healthcare, including work with the Mayo Clinic to help rural America.
