Ad agency apologises over Burger King ‘top and bottom’ Pride whoppers

It’s Pride Month and many brands are rightly promoting it with special campaigns.

But Burger King Austria made a bit of a whopper when it tried to celebrate same-sex relationships with a special new item on the menu.

The fast food giant launched the Pride Whopper – a regular whopper, but served with either two sesame ‘top’ buns, or two flat ‘bottom’ buns.

It is not clear if a sexual innuendo was intended, with the company saying in a post on Instagram that the ‘equal buns’ represent ‘equal rights and equal love’.

The misguided ad divided the internet, with some on social media ‘puking and laughing’ and others left downright confused.

One person tweeted: ‘Burger King Austria made a burger to celebrate Pride Month that’s either two tops or two bottoms.

People accused Burger King of ‘failing to understand how gay sex works’

‘But, much like being in a gay relationship, it is really helpful to have one top and one bottom.’

Another said: ‘I am convinced whoever is in charge at Burger King does not know how gay sex works.’
