Adam Brody is ready for his close-up.

Indeed, ahead of Nobody Wants This season two’s release later this fall, the OC alum revealed that when it comes to the first season—where he plays hot rabbi Noah—he has a few pieces of feedback for himself.  

“I watched the first season and thought, Man, I should have tried a little harder to be funnier,” Adam, 45, confessed in an interview with Vanity Fair published June 10. “I know I’m supposed to be grounded; I know I’m in some ways an anchor. Yet still, I was like, I wouldn’t hate it if I was a little funnier.”

Another season two hope is for more swoon-worthy moments with Kristen Bell, whose agnostic sex-positive podcaster Joanne romances Noah. After all, season one ended with them deciding to give their budding relationship a real shot. 

“My fear was, one of the things that worked so well in the first season is the romance and all these firsts that are so naturally romantic and sexy: first kiss, first time being with each other, first breakup, first makeup, et cetera,” he explained. “Now that we’re a little more domesticated, will it still have that spark? I think it does, but we’ll see.”

But Adam and Kristen aren’t the only ones set to make a splash as season two ups the stakes when it debuts October 25. The Jennifer’s Body alum will also have his wife Leighton Meester along for the ride. 

The Gossip Girl alum has joined the cast as Abby, an Instagram mommy influencer and Joanne’s middle school nemesis. And the only tip Adam had for creator Erin Foster and the writers about his wife’s guest role was to lean into the comedy.

“I said, ‘Write her something funny, I’m sure she would love to do it,’” he recalled. “And they wrote her something great. It wasn’t a hard decision.”

Indeed, Adam—who shares children Arlo, 9, and a 4-year-old son whose name they have not shared with Leighton—isn’t the only one excited about her arrival. Erin previously revealed how she presented the idea to Adam and Leighton. 

“We came up with such a fun character,” Erin told E! News in May. “We went to Adam first, like, ‘What do you think of this idea?’ He was like, ‘I think that she would be so great at it. Do it. Ask her.’ And she was so game and so excited. She is an underrated comedian.”

Kristen has also teased what fans can look forward to with Leighton’s arrival.

“Leighton Meester is blessing us with her presence,” the Good Place alum told E! News in February, adding that her entry “will be fun” because “she is not my nemesis” off-screen.
