Adobe is getting into the AI assistant game.

The assistant, which is rolling out in beta today as a part of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader, is a new tool that "reads" through documents and can answer questions related to their content, format information to be shared in emails or reports, and create summaries. The main feature is the ability to scan your documents and find the information you're looking for quickly and easily.

Adobe's ubiqutious PDF is the number one document stored in the cloud, according to the company. 

If you're reviewing a contract for an upcoming deal and need to look over all the stipulations that could lead to the contract being voided, for example, you could ask the assistant which pages contain the information, or you could simply ask the assistant to pull the info. It will collect the relevant data and present it with citations, so you can check the chatbot's work. 

The assistant can also summarize long documents into short readouts, which could be useful for condensing meeting minutes, breaking down a long presentation into parts, or getting a top-level view of an annual report.

Alex Gay, senior director of Acrobat's B2B product marketing operations, told Inc. that small and medium size business leaders could use the AI assistant to quickly synthesize information from documents like contracts, invoices, and POs to reclaim time better spent elsewhere. According to Gay, early projections show that the assistant can save workers "between two and 30 hours a week on activities ranging from summarizing meeting notes to reviewing legal and research documents."

Adobe says that the assistant can also take information from your documents and reformat it to be emailed, or to be used in presentations and reports. Beyond PDFs, the AI assistant can be used with all document formats, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. During the beta period, the assistant will be available on Acrobat's standard and pro-tiers for free.
