Buyout firm Advent and Stripe have ended their pursuit of PayPal Holdings after previously offering more than US$50 billion for the payments company.
The deal would have been one of the biggest leveraged buyouts if completed.
Stripe had considered a deal for part or all of PayPal after a slump in PayPal’s stock.
PayPal shares have risen more than 40% this quarter after takeover interest emerged.
The company reported second-quarter earnings above analysts’ estimates, lifting its market value to about US$52.6 billion.
Stripe was last valued at US$159 billion in a February 2026 share sale, underscoring its capacity to join a bid.
