Alibaba has launched Qwen3-Coder, an AI-powered coding model introduced on July 23, 2025.
Designed for code generation, debugging, and managing complex workflows, it uses a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture with 480 billion parameters, activating 35 billion per token.
Alibaba reports strong benchmark performance compared to leading coding models.
The company also open-sourced Qwen Code, a command-line tool that integrates with Qwen3-Coder and supports natural language engineering tasks. It is compatible with tools like the Claude Code interface.
Qwen3-Coder supports up to 1 million tokens in context, is trained on both code and general text, and uses advanced reinforcement learning.
It is available on Hugging Face, GitHub, and Alibaba’s Model Studio. Qwen-based tools have been downloaded over 20 million times.
