Alphabet raises 2025 spending to $85b on AI, cloud growth

Alphabet announced on July 23, 2025, that it is increasing its capital expenditure plans for 2025 to about US$85 billion, up from a previous pledge of US$75 billion.
This decision follows strong demand for its cloud computing services.
The company reported better-than-expected Q2 results, with revenue reaching US$96.43 billion and profit at US$2.31 per share, both beating analysts’ estimates.
Google Cloud sales rose 32%, surpassing the expected 26.5%, and customer count increased 28% quarter-over-quarter.
CEO Sundar Pichai credited the growth to AI offerings like TPU chips, which compete with Nvidia’s GPUs.
CFO Anat Ashkenazi noted that demand for AI technologies has outpaced supply capabilities.
While Google Cloud still trails AWS and Azure, it recently joined OpenAI’s list of cloud capacity suppliers.
