Amanda Knox Reunites With Italian Ex-Boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito 16 Years After Their Wrongful Convictions
Amanda Knox reunited with Raffaele Sollecito for a rare red carpet moment 16 years after they were wrongfully convicted of the murder of Meredith Kercher in Italy.
Knox, 38, and Sollecito, 41, posed together at the August 19 premiere of Hulu‘s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox in New York City. The new drama series, which Knox co-produced, retells Kercher’s 2007 murder and Knox’s journey to prove her innocence in a long journey of trials, convictions and appeals.
In it, Tell Me Lies actress Grace Van Patten plays Knox while Sollecito is portrayed by Italian actor Giuseppe De Domenico. Knox and her former boyfriend posed with the actors who play their younger selves in the show.
At the premiere, Knox gushed to People about seeing Van Patten play her 20-year-old self on screen. “I felt like I could finally grieve the young person that I was,” Knox, who served as an executive producer alongside Monica Lewinsky, said. “Someone recently said that what happened is someone stole my sparkle. They didn’t just steal my freedom, they stole my sparkle. And seeing her bring it back again — I’m just so grateful to her, that she’s honored that for me.”
Knox was also joined on the red carpet by her husband, Christopher Robinson, a writer who she married in 2018. They share a daughter, Eureka Muse Knox-Robinson, and a son, Echo Knox-Robinson.
Knox and Sollecito had only been dating for a week when the American student came home to her Perugia apartment to find her British roommate’s body. Soon after, Knox and Sollecito were arrested. Later, a local man named Rudy Guede was arrested after his DNA was found at the scene.
Knox and Sollecito were accused of working with Guede to murder Kercher and were convicted in 2009, a year after Guede’s conviction. After a series of appeals and more convictions, Knox and Sollecito eventually proved their innocence and their conviction was overturned in 2015 after it was determined Guede had acted alone.
Knox and Sollecito previously reunited in 2022 with Sollecito in an Italian town the pair were planning to visit the day Kercher’s body was discovered. “It was bitter-sweet to go back as we were supposed to go there in such different circumstances, but it was just nice for us to be able to talk about something that wasn’t the case,” Sollecito told The Mirror at the time.
