Anthropic has signed a lease with EverWind for data center capacity at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, in its first such agreement in Canada, said Jacob Glick, Anthropic’s Canada public policy head.

EverWind, a Canada-based developer of green energy projects, plans to invest more than C$10 billion (US$7.05 billion) in the Nova Scotia data center campus and related wind power projects.

EverWind’s Point Tupper green hydrogen and ammonia project is listed in the provincial environmental assessment registry. Its phase 1 front-end engineering design was completed in April 2024, but neither confirms approval for the data center.

EverWind has promoted the Cape Breton port area as a future clean fuel hub.

Researchers are examining how to integrate AI data centers into Canada’s electricity grids, while the International Energy Agency analyzes AI’s energy demand.

Glick said Anthropic would protect ratepayers and water resources while ensuring local communities benefit.
