Anwar: Iranian president says ceasefire possible if attacks on Tehran, Gaza end
KUALA LUMPUR: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has told Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the Islamic republic is willing to end military action against Israel, provided Tel Aviv ceases its attacks on Tehran and Gaza.
Anwar said Masoud had asked him to convey this stand to other Muslim nations so that they will not be influenced by one-sided narratives and understand the true context behind Iran's retaliation to attacks.
"Malaysia welcomes Iran's commitment to seek peaceful resolutions with all parties, including the United States and Israel, provided that conditions of justice and sovereignty are met.
"Malaysia believes that only through negotiation and diplomacy can a comprehensive solution be achieved, as an effort to avoid prolonged conflict," Anwar said in posts on his social media accounts following a phone conversation with Masoud.

Anwar said he had told the Iranian president that Malaysia has unequivocally condemned in the strongest terms Israel's attacks on Gaza and Iran, which have claimed the lives of not only ordinary civilians but also high-ranking military leadership and scientists in Iran.
"These actions transcend the bounds of humanity and the principles of international law. Since the outbreak of this conflict, Malaysia has consistently maintained that violence is not the solution.
"However, within the framework of universal justice, Malaysia recognises Iran's right to respond to any form of aggression that violates its national sovereignty.
"It would be hypocritical for the world to acknowledge Israel's strength but deny Iran's legitimate right to self-defence," he said.
