Anwar extends condolences to Sarawak Premier over wife’s passing
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg over the passing of his wife, Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were deeply saddened by the news of her demise.
“Our thoughts are with the family, especially Abang Jo (Abang Johari), whom I met just yesterday (Sunday).
“May he remain patient and steadfast during this trial.
“We pray that the soul of the late Puan Sri be forgiven for any of her sins and granted a special place by His side. Al-Fatihah,” read the post.
Both Deputy Prime Ministers – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof – also conveyed their condolences to Abang Johari.
Ahmad Zahid, in a statement, described her passing as a great loss to the people of the state.
He said her loss is not only felt by her immediate family but is also mourned by the people of Sarawak, who greatly valued her contributions and service.
“The Premier’s late wife, whom I had the honour of knowing, was a gracious and gentle soul who was deeply committed to charitable and social work, especially in empowering women and communities in Sarawak.
“I represented the Federal Government in visiting the Sarawak Premier’s family, conveying our condolences and expressing the solidarity and prayers of all Malaysians in this time of sorrow.
“I pray that Allah showers His mercy upon her soul, forgives all her sins, and places her among the righteous.
“May Abang Johari and his family be granted strength, patience and acceptance in facing this trying time,” he said, Bernama reported.
Fadillah, in a Facebook post, expressed his condolences and described her passing as a significant loss to the people of Sarawak.
“It is a tremendous loss not only to the family of the deceased but also to the people of Sarawak.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Premier and all members of the family,” he said.
Meanwhile, several Cabinet Ministers also conveyed their condolences through official statements and social media posts.
Juma’ani, 76, passed away at a private medical centre in Kuching at 3.34am yesterday.
She was the daughter of Sarawak’s second Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Tuanku Bujang Tuanku Othman.
She was buried at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery in Petra Jaya, Kuching.
