Cannes Film Festival has one of the most dazzling red carpets for fashion each year, and Aubrey Plaza didn’t disappoint.

The 40-year-old actress walked the carpet in France on May 23 for the premiere of her film, Honey Don’t! Co-stars Margaret Qualley and Charlie Day also joined her, but Plaza drew the most attention. She was marking a major career milestone just months after the death of her husband, Jeff Baena.

She looked stunning in a nude gown with a sheer overlay featuring colorful beading and sequins. Plaza had a natural glow with just a pop of colored gloss on her lips and a heavy cat eye. Her hair was styled in soft waves framing her face.

Plaza’s first public appearance was at the SNL50: The Anniversary Special on Feb. 16 just over a month after Bane’s Jan. 3 death by suicide at the age of 47. The Parks and Recreation star was there to introduce Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard’s musical segment, a tribute to the late Sinéad O’Connor with her song, “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Her low-key appearance included a sweet nod to Baena — she wore a tie-dye shirt underneath her black blazer.

“Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine. So, I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us,” Plaza shared on The Drew Barrymore Show in Dec. 2021. Plaza and Baena dated for a decade before walking down the aisle in May 2021.

Plaza has remained largely out of the spotlight after losing her husband, but she did issue a statement on Jan. 7 to CBS News. This is an unimaginable tragedy,” she said in the statement. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

She hasn’t addressed his passing since as she continues to mourn. Plaza has received strong reviews for her work in Honey Don’t and it received a six-and-a-half minute standing ovation after the premiere, per Deadline. There may be more premieres and award shows in her future this year, but Plaza is taking it slowly in the wake of her grief.
