Firmus Technologies, an Australian AI infrastructure company, said on August 13 that it entered into a binding agreement to acquire Benmax’s fabrication, design, and projects businesses for A$300 million (US$212 million).

The deal would bring more of Firmus’ AI factory design, fabrication, construction, and operations in-house.

Benmax, an Australian engineering and manufacturing company, has worked with Firmus since 2020 to co-design and manufacture successive generations of the HyperCube modular AI Factory platform.

Benmax provides mechanical system design, project delivery, fabrication, manufacturing, and maintenance.

Firmus said HyperCube has been adapted for a CDC facility in Melbourne, is being deployed in the company’s AI factory development in Tasmania, and will support its expansion into Southeast Asia.

In Southeast Asia, HyperCube will be integrated into projects delivered with regional build partner DayOne.

Firmus said the deal, once completed, would lift its global workforce to 340. The move also reflects a broader push in AI infrastructure to bring more construction and operations in-house.
