We all know Singapore has one of the highest quality water systems, safe enough to drink straight out of the tap, but as it turns out, it’s also perfect for giving us really clean hair too.

In a seven-second video, Australian TikToker Claire McCarthy wondered why her hair felt “next-level squeaky clean” after washing it while in Singapore. And yes, she was being literal. In the clip, she was also seen rubbing her hair, producing a squeaky sound.

Claire then went as far as to call it her “best hair hack if you can get a flight to Singapore”.

Most commenters credited Singapore’s use of soft water, meaning it's relatively low in dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, which contributed to Claire’s experience.

According to national water agency PUB, Singapore’s water is considered soft to moderately soft due to stringent treatment processes which removes almost all minerals and impurities.

Soft water also allows soap and detergent to lather better, making for easier and more efficient washing, and, yes, squeaky clean hair.

Proud Singaporeans were seen jumping into the comments, saying they only noticed the difference while holidaying overseas.

“The minute I travel anywhere, my hair becomes dry, flaky, rough, and tangled. I think the [Singapore] government spoiled my hair and now its super picky,” read a hilarious comment.

Who knew the government in Singapore was looking out for our tresses too?

Claire herself replied, “You guys have it too good versus the rest of the world”.

Another netizen even dropped a bombshell claim that her Korean friends “bottled Singapore’s tap water to use as a hair toner back home”.

Really?

However, others were less convinced that it was less about the quality of the water and that Claire simply over cleansed to get the squeaky effect.

One who claimed to have lived in Singapore all her life wrote, “I’ve never noticed my hair as clean as yours. Please drop your shampoo brand, girl”.
