GEORGETOWN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry inspected two food stalls here today after a viral video recently claimed that the owners were using a halal certificate that did not belong to them.

However, no certificate, logos or any representation indicating that the food served was halal were found at the stalls.

State Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director S. Jegan said enforcement officers, together with officers from the Penang Religious Affairs Department, first carried out an inspection at the stall featured in the video, which was in a supermarket food court, at 11am.

At that time, there was a Myanmar worker manning the stall.

He said the team also acted swiftly by inspecting another stall in a popular food court along Persiaran Gurney here.

Both stalls were believed to be owned by the same company based on their name.

"The inspection found no Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) certification, logos or anything indicating that the food served was halal.

"So, we advised both food stalls to comply with all regulations enforced by KPDN," Jegan said in a statement today.

Recently, a 1-minute 30-second video had gone viral showing a man questioning a worker at a food stall in a supermarket food court for displaying a halal certificate, which allegedly did not belong to the stall. The food stall is believed to be owned by non-Muslims.
