The 33-year-old flew back to his Melbourne base yesterday.

His wife of 12 years, Athiah Ilyana Abdul Samad is expecting their third child and Azizul is looking forward to the family reunion after serving two weeks of quarantine as required by the Australian government.

“I can’t wait to fulfil my responsibility as a husband to help my wife go through the final pregnancy process.

“I will also be returning to my previous role as a professional baby sitter,” joked Azizul, who is already a father to two young daughters.

“It’s my daily routine to train on the track but the intensity will be reduced as I have no plans to go for any competitions this year,” said Azizul, who left Melbourne in June to get ready for the Tokyo Olympics campaign.

“I have been away from my family for the longest time because of the travelling situation (brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic). It’s only fair that I spend time with them.”

Azizul also apologised for any shortcomings during his stay in Malaysia over the last few months.
