Asia One·2026-11-03 19:00
A BMW car caught fire along the busy Orchard Road on Tuesday (Nov 3) morning.
The incident happened at about 11.05am outside Concorde Hotel Singapore, just before Istana.
A video posted on social media shows the thick greyish smoke emitting from the engine area, while another video shows two fire engines near the vehicle.
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) stated that the fire involved the engine compartment of the car.
It added that firefighters extinguished the fire using a water jet.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and the cause of fire is under investigation.
In 2025, a total of 528 fire calls were at non-building premises. Of these, 193 cases were vehicle fires.
According to SCDF, the primary cause of vehicle fires in Singapore is due to ignition causes, such as overheating and electrical faults within the engine compartment.
Vehicle owners are advised to regularly service their vehicles at the recommended manufacturer intervals, and should also check for defects in the vehicle's electrical, engine and fuel systems.
