KUALA LUMPUR: The 12-year-wait for a home winner in the men’s doubles in the Malaysian Masters is over after shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik set up a showdown against teammates Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun in the final.

Thailand Open champions Aaron-Wooi Yik continued their fine form when they battled hard to beat Denmark’s world No. 1 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-19, 17-21, 21-15 in a thrilling last-four match at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Saturday (May 24).

Earlier, Wei Chong-Kai Wun had booked their own spot in the title match after sensationally ousting Japan’s 2021 world champions Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi 21-12, 21-14.

The victories assured the men’s doubles title for Malaysia, which was last won by Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah in 2013.

Meanwhile, women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah’s run came to an end after the pair went down fighting 16-21, 21-15, 14-21 to China’s Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian.
