Bags of necessities come in handy for festive celebration

A CANCER survivor’s positive outlook has helped her live a good life for over 23 years.

Norlila Simon, 62, said she was forced to quit her job as a security officer at a factory after being diagnosed with cancer in 2000.

“Instead of letting cancer defeat me, I faced it head-on by staying calm and positive by staying physically active and enjoying fishing trips with my nieces and nephews,” she said.

“I feel that my resilience and optimism have kept my cancer in remission for the past 23 years.”

Norlila was one of 100 recipients of food necessities sponsored by developer M Summit Group at the Kampung Binjai mosque in Batu Maung, Penang.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort, carried out in collaboration with Bayan Lepas assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz’s service centre, was aimed at supporting those in need.

Norlila, in expressing her gratitude, explained how the aid had helped her save money.

Each bag was filled with items such as dates, packets of ketupat, biscuits, cooking oil, salt, sugar, snacks and noodles.

Sopian Budin, a 56-year-old retiree, said he appreciated the timely assistance.
