The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru has been declared safe after receiving a bomb threat on Sunday (Sept 13) night.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arshad told New Straits Times that police were alerted to the incident at 11.31pm on Sunday after the shopping mall's management received the threat via email.

The threat prompted the deployment of Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) personnel from the Johor police contingent headquarters and the South Johor Baru district police headquarters to inspect the mall's interior and exterior premises.

"Several suspicious objects were discovered and examined by the UPB team, but none contained any explosive materials," said Arshad.

In a statement on Monday, Arshad reportedly said there was no bomb threat detected, and the area has been declared "completely safe".

He added that the police take threats involving explosives seriously and will take immediate action to ensure public safety, The Malay Mail reported.

Bomb scare in KL

The bomb scare at Johor Bahru comes just a day before Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, faced its own bomb threat on Monday.

A video posted to Threads showed police cordoning off an area in the Sri Petaling district.

Malaysia's Sin Chew Daily reported that a bomb threat had been made in the area, prompting authorities to seal off the scene and conduct a thorough sweep.

The case was confirmed by Brickfields Police District Chief Assistant Commissioner Hu Changfu, who told Sin Chew Daily that preliminary investigations indicated it was a hoax.

Kuala Lumpur's fire department was alerted to the incident at 1.34pm on Monday and dispatched five firefighters and a fire engine to stand by at Jalan Radin Bagus in Sri Petaling, according to Sin Chew Daily.

The fire department reportedly confirmed the presence of a suspicious box at the scene.
