Brad Pitt Broke His Silence on His Divorce From Angelina Jolie & Majorly Downplayed Their Legal Battles
In September 2016, Angelina Jolie filed for divorcefrom her ex-husband Brad Pitt. And while some divorces take longer than others to finalize, Pitt and Jolie only settled their legal battle in December 2024, more than eight years later.
Looking back at the experience now, however, it seems the whole situation was no big deal for Pitt. In a new interview with GQ, he was asked about life after their divorce was finalized. “Is there relief?” asked journalist Daniel Riley.
“No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,” Pitt, who’s starring in the upcoming racing movie F1, said. “Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
He then continued to play it cool when asked about his first public event with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon. Their first outing took place at the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone Circuit on July 7, 2024. When asked if the outing was intentional to bring attention to his movie, Pitt reportedly chuckled.
“No, dude, it’s not that calculated,” the Fight Club star said. “If you’re living [like that], oh my God, how exhausting would that be? If you’re living with making those kinds of calculations?”
“No, life just evolves,” he said. “Relationships evolve.”
Previously, Jolie, who shares six kids with Pitt, has been honest about the mental toll their legal battle had taken. After all, not only was their divorce a breakup after years together, but it also brought about the 2016 incident when Pitt allegedly became verbally and physically abusive with his children aboard a private jet.
“I wasn’t myself for a while, so I wasn’t able to give as much to my work for a few years,” the Oscar winner said in an interview with Vanity Fair in December 2024. “I went very dark for reasons I’d rather not explain, but I didn’t have a lot of light and life within me,” she admitted. “Your light’s dim.”
“I also just needed to be home more, so I couldn’t commit large periods of time to pieces,” she said, explaining why it took her years to take on roles like opera singer Maria Callas in Maria. “The choice of what to work on and when was not a creative choice, often, the last few years, but sometimes the practical choice. Really, I think Maria was the beginning of starting to come alive again. I needed a lot of kind people around me to hold my hand.”
Overall, it seems Jolie has no intention of sugar-coating how tough their divorce really was. Pitt, on the other hand, is readily moving on.
