Brie Larson’s bold new haircut is electric.

The Captain Marvel star looked almost unrecognizable after she debuted the tightly cropped pixie cut.

In a Nov. 25 Instagram post, Brie wrote, “Elektra is here.”

The 35-year-old is playing the mythological character of Elektra in an upcoming stage production of the same name for a limited run in Brighton, England’s Theatre Royal Jan. 13 through 18 and London’s Duke of York Theater, Jan. 24 through April 12.

The production will be based off classicist Anne Carson's translation of the Sophocles-written Greek tragedy. The synopsis for the play reads: “Elektra, haunted by her father's assassination, is consumed by grief; a need for survival; and a thirst for vengeance. When her long lost brother Orestes at last returns, she urges him to a savage and terrifying conclusion but at what cost?”

Brie will be joined on stage by actors Stockard Channing, Marième Diouf, Greg Hicks, and Patrick Vaill in the play directed by Daniel Fish.

While Brie is perhaps best known for her onscreen roles—including Captain Marvel and Lessons in Chemistry—she got her start in the theater.

One of Brie’s previous stage credits includes playing Emily in Our Town at the prestigious Williamstown Theater Festival in 2010. And while Brie has not taken to the stage often since she started her professional acting career on the United States of Tara in 2009, she originally trained at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California, beginning her studies at the age of six, which made her the youngest participant in the theater’s history.

Noting in a press release that she “couldn’t be more excited” to be starring in Elektra, Larson added, “Storytelling has always been the way I organize life, feelings and experiences. I look forward to sharing space with the wonderful West End audience while we explore this timeless story.”

This new turn in the theater—where she can experience the audience reactions in real time every day—is likely to come as a welcome change for the actress, who has previously spoken to how the long wait between filming something like a Marvel movie and audiences actually being able to watch. It’s why she’s so grateful for in-person fan events that allow her to interact with viewers.

"It's really encouraging because you're just doing something in secret alone for so long," Brie told E! News at Disney's D23 Expo in 2022. "It's nice to have these reminders that these are really important stories that mean something to people and can change the course of someone's life."
