LONDON - Britain experienced its hottest and sunniest year on record in 2025, surpassing the previous high set in 2022, the national weather service said on Jan 2 , as persistent high-pressure systems and unusually warm seas drove up temperatures.

The Met Office said the average annual temperature was 10.09 deg C, topping the 2022 average of 10.03 deg C and marking only the second year since detailed records began in 1884 that the annual mean temperature has exceeded 10 deg C.
