Cardi B is throwing it back to the 2000s with her latest hair color and style.

Hairstylist and wigmaker Tokyo Stylez — also known as Mia Jackson — worked with Cardi to create a Y2K-ready long pigtail style with bright, chunky, crimson-red highlights that Jackson shares were inspired by the work of stylist Davontae' Washington, who recently created a similar style on YouTube and TikTok star Quenlin Blackwell. Cardi's look, which would be perfectly at home in the early '00s and in 2022, features long black lengths pulled up in cute Baby Spice-style half-pigtails and accented with vibrant pops of scarlet red á la Hot Topic chic with a few pieces pulled out to frame her face.

The musician paired the pigtails with an oversized Balenciaga sweatshirt, a jeweled pink manicure, hoop earrings, and a mini bag. As for her makeup, Cardi and her go-to makeup artist Erika La' Pearl opted for long lashes and a rose-brown lipstick for a fresh and pretty vibe.

According to La'Pearl's Instagram, she used Pat McGrath Labs products to create Cardi's gorgeous glam, including Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil in Contour and Lip Fetish Balm in Nude Venus on Cardi's lips. She may not actually be heading to Hot Topic, but Cardi's black-and-red color combo is throwing it back to the 2000s with echoes of Kelly Rowland's Destiny's Child-era looks. (Remember her red highlights? Iconic.)

Colorful styles like these red and black pigtails are Cardi's signature; the star has fun experimenting with her look and isn't afraid to try super-bright shades and over-the-top styles. This summer, we've seen the rapper in a hot pink updo for her daughter Kulture's mermaid-themed birthday party and major inches in a bright copper red, also done by Tokyo. And we can't forget the curled rainbow bob she rocked for the West Hollywood Gay Pride Parade, which blended Marilyn Monroe-esque retro glamour with modern self-expression.

What shade will Cardi choose next? There's still a lot of summer left, so we'll be keeping an eye on our favorite color chameleon.
