We bet you’ve never seen a cat that looks like this. 

This particular feline lives in Henan, China and is named Mo Gong Zi (墨公子), which directly translates to Young Master Ink — one look at his face and you’ll understand why he is named so. 

With the handle Mo Shang Mao Ru Hua (墨上猫如画), Mo Gong Zi is quite the star on Douyin with almost 65k fans, and even goes live on weekday nights to keep his followers updated with his daily cat life.

What makes Mao Gong Zi special is his unique coat pattern. When he approaches from a distance, thanks to his colouring and the perpetual tilt of his head, Mao Gong Zi appears to have sort of a sad human face, making for one really wacky optical illusion. 

While his fur is mostly white, his tail and most of his hind area is a brownish-grey colour. The same grey shade appears on his face, in small patches above his eyes, nose, chin, and his right ear. 

In fact, netizens have dubbed him “special effects cat”, “comic book cat”, and also “emoticon cat”. 

According to its bio, Mao Gong Zi is a three-year-old highland cat, with a gentle and polite personality. He also has a vestibular condition, which affects his balance, causing his head to tilt to one side. 

“I really thought this was an optical illusion video,” commented one netizen, with many others echoing the same sentiment. 

While some cat lovers think Mao Gong Zi looks adorable, others have said he looks “creepy”. 

“I thought I was hallucinating, I didn’t think he’ll actually look so ugly,” joked one netizen. Looks like many found the comment funny, for this particular take received over 89k likes. 

“I’m not going to say he’s ugly, so I’ll say he’s unique,” quipped another netizen. 

One commenter also said Mao Gong Zi looks “cute, like a ghost”. 

Naturally, many others have also screen-captured the kitty’s face to use as memes and emoticon stickers. 

Meanwhile, Mao Gong Zi, blissfully unaware of his fame, is living his best life exploring gardens and parks, just doing what non-viral cats do.
