This was the strategy in 1970s and 80s in developing Singapore. This only shows oir 4G leaders are vood if any first class thinking caps. The old guard had missed the very importance of technological advancement in the IT industry that we were left behind by even Thirld World India in educating and producing talent in that area. Today we are playing catchup and we are going back to old ideas of attracting MNCs. This works if you are a developing country wherecoat of operations ar cheaper. There is no way Singapore can complete with other larger countries like China and even Blangadesh in the future. We can still be ahead for attRacting MNCs in those industries he mentioned but for how long. It does not help that the government brings in foreign labor to take ocer jobs of locals at cheaper wages to reduce these costs and make Singapore attractive to MNCs. In the past we do that to develop our infratructure and human capital know how but today, we do that to benefit the gocernment coffers and foreigners who are employed where they would not be in their own countries....
