Cheaper Flowflex ART kits now available at all Unity pharmacy stores, selected FairPrice supermarkets

SINGAPORE Low-cost Flowflex antigen rapid test (ART) kits was rolled out at all Unity pharmacy stores and 90 FairPrice supermarkets from Friday (Dec 10).A single test kit will cost S$4.90, while a box of five is priced at S$24 and a box of 25 costs S$117.50. In comparison, other brands are priced at at least S$13 for a single test kit. FairPrice said in a press release on Friday that these kits are available at selected Cheers, FairPrice Xpress convenience stores, including outlets at hospitals, on Friday. More convenience stores, including those at Esso service stations and other high-traffic areas, will be included next week.The Flowflex ART kit is manufactured by United States-based diagnostic and medical devices firm Acon Laboratories.It was authorised for use in Singapore by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) on Nov 8 this year under the Pandemic Special Access Route for critical new medical products during a pandemic.Including Flowflex, there are now 11 approved Covid-19 self-test kits in Singapore.  Last month, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said that Flowflex is among a number of cheaper kits that the authorities would be introducing in Singapore.Flowflex was first introduced to the market that month but its initial stock quickly sold out within three days.FairPrice said on Friday that it would monitor consumer demand and bring in supplies and relevant products for Singaporeans.Two other brands of kits Alltest and Indicaid have met Singapores quality standards and are undergoing registration with the HSA. Mr Ong said then that he hoped these kits would eventually be priced below S$5 each.As of Friday, the HSA has yet to include either of the two brands on its lists of approved kits.TODAY has asked Watsons pharmacy, as well as supermarket chain Sheng Siong and the Dairy Farm Group which operates supermarkets such as Cold Storage, Giant and the Guardian pharmacy on whether they will be carrying the Flowflex test kits.
